As
world is going on a roller-coaster speed, fashion world is still moving on the
speed of tortoise. The world is evolving with females asking for their rights and
LGBTQ+ community asking for their right. Everyone from ever corner of this globe
is going their best to make a mark in this world. For a very long-time females and LGBTQ+ didn’t
had a chance to prove their potential. But now the world is changing and slowly
the fashion industry is also changing.
There are
some very powerful female icons in the industry that are absolutely killing the
game. From designer to photographer to blogger and editors, they are just
killing it in the game. In an industry which is mainly being run by testosterones.
These divas are just killing it- take a shot every time is as killing it.
Anna Wintour – most respected and successful journalist.
She is the editor in chief of the fashion magazine Vogue America. She is the
master mind in the most important event of America, the Met gala. Sophia
Amoruso – founder of Nasty gal, Sophia Amoruso is an example of success. She is
a businesswoman, write and owner of online vintage retail store. She also has an
autobiography on Netflix called the Girl Boss. These women and anymore like Annie Leibovitz, Pat
McGrath and Leandra Medine are once again killing it. They are setting example for
everyone out there.
Now the fashion industry is not just looking pretty and walking the runway, it’s
also about empowerment, sustainable material uses and eco-friendly production. There are
brands that are run by females for better cause or to empower females and transgender
females from different background. Brand like Doodlage are using recycled or
upcycled fabric for their chic fashion clothing line.
On the other hand,
Matteau is a brand that makes swimwear for every size woman. Sometimes swimwear
can be very intimidating but this brand is doing it right. Matteau is ran by 2
sister- Ilona Hamer and Peta Heinsen. Truss is yet again a very good example of
women working together is best.
Truss is a brand best known for its colourful handwoven
tote and bucket bags. Elise Durbecq and Gillian Tozer run this brand and are
from Mexico. This brand frequently donates to a local charity benefiting young
women.
Being a curvy girl, I know how hard it is to find something that do
justice to our curves. Although I m not working yet but still, I have a habit
of buying or just window-shopping work outfits. I don’t know, there is something
about that blouses and Universal standard is just the right place to stop buy if
you are a girl boss who want to rock those curves. Alexandra Waldman and Polina
Veksler started when it was impossible for them to find anything good for curve
girl. Everyone is having their place at this time. Everyone is being acknowledged.
Not
only the fashion brands but models like Ashley Graham a plus size model, Andreja
Pejic a transgender model booking both man and female modelling gigs, Daphne
Selfe proving that age is just a number, Winnie Harlow proving all you need is
confidence. There are so many models that are breaking the stereotype and
proving talent, confidence is all you need.
Ashley Graham
is very beautiful and elegant plus size model. She created a plus size barbie
doll for girls to accept their own curves. She has also appeared on the hit Americas
next top model as a mentor. Andreja Pejic was scouted out to be a model before
her 17th birthday. She uses to do both masculine and feminine
clothing. In 2011 Paris fashion show she walked for both male and female shows
for Jean-Paul Gaultier and the men's shows for Marc Jacobs. She became the first
open transgender model in may 2015.
Believe or
not but Daphne Selfe is 91-year-old model. This is the true definition of age
is just a number. Even now she has the charm and is very elegant and beautiful.
She has done cover shoots for Dolce and Gabbana and even have a Genies world record
on her name for being the oldest professional working model.
We all know Winnie
Harlow from ANTM 21 cycle. She has a skin condition called vitiligo but that is
not stopping her from being fabulous. She was bullied in class by her class mates
but that didn’t stop her. She has walked for Victoria secret and many fashion
weeks.
If you are keeping up with the Kardashian then you know how they got their start. A sex tape sandal, OJ Simpson’s case and lot of negative energy. Even though this family has been through a lot of ups and down yet they are a house hold name in Hollywood.
I was recently introduced to the wonderful world of drag queens. There is a show on Netflix – RuPaul’s drag race and to be honest it was the best runway show I have every seen. So fabulous and glamorous. It is the most accepting and welcoming show I have ever seen. To be honest I m in love with this show and can’t wait for another season. There is a line at the end of every episode by papa Ru. She say’s “If you can’t love yourself, how the hell are you gonna love somebody else?” and that just hits right in the happy spot. I have never seen someone so confident and comfortable with their own self and I’m telling you that just so motivating. In conclusion, everyone around us are different around us and acceptance is on your perspective.
All we need
right now is support, weather it is from your partner or your family or your own
self is just a little support and that makes difference. For example, in the famous sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S
the character Rachael played by Jennifer Aniston became an executive from a person who didn't knew what job is . In the
first episode of friends we get to know that she ran away from her wedding. What
if on that day Monica didn’t supported her and took her in? All I m saying is
that we need to be Monica sometimes. All we need to say is I’ll be there for
you (when the rain starts to pour) to each other. It doesn’t matter if you’re a
male, female, transgender or binary. You just need to be a homosapien. We just need to be supportive and accept new changes. These all females have accepted that they are awesome and that made a huge difference.
To
be honest us girls have being through a lot since history of human kind. And it’s
so refreshing to see people like Ashley Graham and Winnie Harlow and brands
like Doodlage working for the something they believe in.
