CINEPHILIA
2020: A fashion film screening by the Programme of Fashion Communication
The programme of Fashion Communication, Institute Of Fashion Technology, Maharaja Sayajirao University Of Baroda, Vadodara, had organized CINEPHILIA 2020, a fashion film screening put together by the students of Fashion Communication.
Cinephilia is an annual filmmaking workshop of short
films conceptualized, shot, and edited by the second year students of Fashion
Communication. It is a practical showcase by the students under the subject
'Introduction to Film Making', taught by Ms. Bhakti Patel, a Teaching Assistant
at the programme. The film screening was at Amphitheater,
Institute of Fashion Technology.
For the first time ever in MSU Baroda, fashion films
were showcased. Cinephilia was mentored by Ms. Bhakti Patel and Ms. Priyanka
Patel under the leadership of Prof. Rameshwari Pandya.
This event was meant to bring forward creativity,
self-expression, originality, and invention. The event featured the main theme,
‘FASHION’ with six fashion films including different concepts:
1.Ouranio Toxo: it means Rainbow and it’s a story of a
designer who upon rejection gets an inspiration through colour wheel where the
film talks of self-worth.
2. The second film revolved around friendship, which
knows no discrimination, emphasizing Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - One world
family.
3. PSYCHE - it depicts the concept of gender terrorism
where the story line relies on social acceptance and individuality.
4. Screw toxic masculinity: this film was about
breaking the norms by screwing toxic masculinity - a freedom to choose what one
wants to do.
5. A myriad of me: this film covered the concept of
'loving yourself' where a girl sets off for a journey to find her true desires
rather than worrying about how society perceives her.
6. The sixth film was about two individuals and their
understanding of each other’s fashion senses. Fashion is not always about being
chic and all put together, fashion is a weird mix and match with a lot of
confidence.
The fashion film screening was judged by eminent
luminaries:
• Ms. Vidhya Desai
(Co-founder and Producer of The Comedy Factory, and Freelancing Fashion
Model)
• Mr. Aariz Saiyed (Actor, Stand-up Comedian, and Musician
at Outro Band)
